Hello everyone once again and welcome to the final installment of the Court McGee Ultimate Fight Night 25 Camp Blog and Diary brought to you by the best place on the internet to buy supplements, Feel-It Nutrition.
This week was pretty hectic to say the least but as you all know already, it had a great ending, lol. I am so glad to be able to write this blog post to all of you after a win, it's an amazing feeling especially after going so long without fighting to come out on top and uninjured. My hand held up really well which I was a little worried about but the Pit Master did an amazing job wrapping me up that it felt great and really held up well. I had a great warm up in the dressing room which was really a good environment since I had my teammates Clay Harvison, Jorge Lopez, and Jake Shields all sharing the dressing room with me, it was very comforting and exactly what I needed to focus. The whole night I watched as the guys left the dressing room and came back with their heads down, first Jorge who lost a close one and then Clay who got submitted in the second round, it was tough because I've known these guys for a long time, then it was my turn.
We walked out to the staging area and walked to the cage, I was focused but nervous as well, all the little butterflies came back and those feelings I hadn't felt since last October came back to remind me what it felt like to compete on the biggest stage in MMA. The fight started out a little dull but that's to be expected when both guys have the same game plan to counter punch, only problem with a counter punch game plan is someone has to punch first, but when we decided to punch it got really interesting really quick. I didn't even see the punch that caught me and sent me into the cage, the flying knee that followed didn't even register since I was still dazed from the punch, luckily he pinned me against the cage and I was able to get my wits back a little, at that point I knew I had to do something. I was pretty sure I'd won the first two rounds but with the judging the way it is you never know. I started trying to get him looking up so I could take him down and thats ultimately what did the trick. I threw a few punches and was able to finish my shots and take him down twice, the first one I still wasn't all there but on strictly instinct I finished the shot and mounted, I felt the elbows landing on his face hard before he was able to stand back up. The second takedown was started off a single leg but I was able to drag him down right into a guillotine choke that would have finished him if I had 5 more seconds on the clock. I watched the tape, it wasn't even the choke itself that was doing the damage, it was me pushing his face into my side, he couldn't breath. I thought he tapped and so did Joe Rogan but coming out with a win after a long layoff with no major injuries is good enough for me, but Fight of the Night Bonus would have been nice though, lol.
Well everyone, if you've been following this blog all camp I'm sorry to say this is the last one for a week or so but I think I earned a little vacation so I'm going to take it.
Thank you again to Jim Pizner, Sonie Giesen, Alex Alleman, and everyone at Feel-It Nutrition for making not only my recovery possible but for making this win possible as well, I couldn't have done it without you all and like I said, this win was for you.
Court "The Crusher" McGee.
